The Expert has a very high specification including on/off antishock. It's 7075 alloy construction offers considerable weight savings and the ergonomic EVA grip extends down to also form a middle grip. However it improves on the Supertrekker by also having dual spring for the antishock (giving a more progressive shock absorbtion) and a positive angle grip.
Antishock is a way of cushioning the jarring of the pole - especially on hard ground and when going downhill. It is achieved by a spring located in the pole which gives a cushioning effect when the pole is pushed on a hard surface. For uphill sections compressing the spring is a waste of energy and so the antishock should be turned off. This increases the benefit of using poles. For backpackers and those carrying heavy loads the Pro and the Expert have two springs in tandem giving progressively increased resistance. This is particularly beneficial for demanding users.
The antishock is operated by tightening the middle section until a click is felt. Tighten a further quarter turn. At this point the antishock is off. To turn on the antishock simply untighten the middle section slightly to feel the click again. The antishock is now turned on.
The poles are priced singly but to get the full benefit of support and stability it is important to use a pair. Unless you are simply replacing a pole we thoroughly recommend ordering two.
